Why kids martial arts in Wollongong is about more than belts
Updated: Sep 12
Parents do not walk into First 2 Strike looking for a fight. They walk in because a child is shy, restless, getting picked on, or just needs somewhere better than a screen.
We teach martial arts. What families stay for is the kid who stands a bit taller at school on Monday.
What we actually train
Classes in Figtree and Woonona mix self-defence, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and freestyle martial arts. Kids learn how to fall, how to get up, and how to use their body without panicking. Teens get harder work and more responsibility. Adults can train too — they are welcome, they are just not who we built the school around.
Character is not a slogan
Respect is bowing in and listening the first time. Discipline is finishing the round when they want to quit. Confidence is tapping a partner and still shaking their hand. Those are the things instructors mark, not just the flashy kick.
Every child starts somewhere different
Some kids charge onto the mat. Some hide behind a parent for three weeks. Both belong here. We do not throw beginners into sparring. We do not yell kids into toughness. We give them a clear next step and a coach who knows their name.
