First martial arts class in Wollongong: a parent’s guide
Updated: 4 days ago
A first class should not feel like an audition. If your child is nervous, that is normal. If you are nervous, that is also normal.
This is what a first session at First 2 Strike actually looks like in Figtree or Woonona.
Who it is for
Kids from around four, teens who want structure, and the occasional adult who wants to train. The school is built around kids and teens. Adults are not turned away.
What to wear
T-shirt and trackpants or shorts. No shoes on the mats. Tie long hair back. Leave jewellery at home. If they have a water bottle, bring it.
What we teach first
How to stand. How to fall safely. How to listen in a group. A few simple self-defence movements they can remember on the drive home. We do not start with hard sparring.
What you should see as a parent
A coach who knows the difference between a loud kid and a scared kid. Other children working, not roaming. A class that ends on time. Nobody should be selling you a 12-month contract at the door — we do not do lock-in contracts.
